Why Breathwork?
Every life begins and ends with the breath, why not learn how to optimise it?
Has anyone ever told you to “just breathe” when you’re stressed?
This is because your breath is a direct link to your nervous system and in turn effects how your body feels and copes with stress. What we often are unaware of, is that the breath is controlled by our autonomic nervous system, but it’s also the only bodily process of our autonomic nervous system that we can voluntarily control.
So what does that mean? By regulating our breath, we have the power to regulate our nervous system, thus impacting our overall physiology.
We breathe up to 22,000 times a day, but how many of those breaths are actually conscious? The key to slowing down your mind is to slow down your body and slow down your breath.
Breathwork is like the master key to so many aspects of your health.
Here’s just a few things breathwork can do for you:
Reduce stress and anxiety
Reduce depression
Improves oxygenation
Balances the nervous system
Supports mental clarity and focus
Boosts immune system
Detoxifies the body
Improves lung capacity and breathing efficiency
Increase performance
These days we are often so busy that we forget to breathe, or we don’t slow down enough to really become aware of our breath. This can lead us to spending more time in our sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight). Coming back to the breath allows us to shift into the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) which allows our body to function more optimally, leading to improved health overall.
